Shifting Long-Term Tillage to Geotextile Mulching for Weed Control Improves Soil Quality and Yield of Orange Orchards

چکیده

Weed control in urban and peri-urban orange orchards is challenging due to operational legislative restrictions. Tillage, besides from negatively affecting soil fertility microorganisms, demanding for humans. On the other hand, herbicides are advised against possibility reach waterbodies surface. Therefore, areas, instead of tillage herbicides, mulching with black plastic geotextile fabric often used. This study aimed at assessing impact long-term on fertility, microbial community yield an orchard comparison conventional tillage. To this aim, four management systems were set up: rotary last 15 years, geotextiles 7 years followed by 8 years. Soil samples analyzed determine chemical biochemical parameters related fertility. In addition, abundances main groups investigated. Mulching increased total organic C least 65%. The greater mulched turn contributed increase cation exchange capacity (+62% average) biomass (+120% average). Additionally, quotient exhibited higher values soils compared tilled ones, suggesting a matter accessibility microorganisms. Moreover, favored fungi over bacteria, Gram-positive bacteria Gram-negative thus contributing establishment more efficient utilizing sources. latter result was confirmed lower metabolic one. Overall, improved that, turn, lead soil.

Productivity , Economics , and Fruit and Soil Quality of Weed Management Systems

11 Organic tree fruit producers often rely on tillage in the tree row to control weeds and disrupt 12 rodent pest habitat. This inexpensive practice can potentially damage the trees’ trunk and roots, 13 thereby reducing yield and fruit quality. In contrast, mulching under the trees to suppress weeds 14 often improves tree performance but at a high initial installation cost, whereas flame weedin...

Weed Control for Conservation Tillage

Introduction Conservation tillage systems using sweep plows or field cultivators leave a high percentage of crop residues on the soil surface, which protects the soil from wind and water erosion (Johnson, 1950; Jones and Johnson, 1982; Allen and Fenster, 1986; Johnson et al., 1974). These systems have been successful in semiarid areas because meager rainfall after plowing does not allow weeds t...

Investigation of Geotextile Yarn Effects on Improvement of Long-Term Deformation of Sandy Soil

Accurate predictions of the amount and the rate of long- term deformation of reinforced soils under an applied load are important key issue in geotechnical engineering, in which the deformation of soil develops with time at a state of constant effective stress. Since geosynthetic is generally considered creep sensitive therefore, evaluation of creep behavior of geosynthetic reinforced soil (GRS...
